A planned outage is when we or our service provider have planned
to take the connection down for mantinence purposes. An unplanned
outage is when either something unexpectedly breaks or some unknown
third parties disrupt data service.(read Numb nut
with a backhoe)

RADIUS Server..........Kablooey

Machine Died Hard. |

| Well I don't want to have to do that again. The main RADIUS server (which controls dialup users access) decided to turn up it's toes and bite the big one. Had to replace the machine, Hard drive, and reconfigure the system.....phew.... Should be good for another six years.. :)

| Just to give you a heads up the connection was down from 2:00pm to 4:00pm because of a wreck on 7th and Steiger. A truck took out a phone pole, killing our power for two hours. The UPSs keep the system up for 1/2 hour, but not long enough. we apologize for the inconvenience, but the situation was out of our control. |

| Seems as though our upstream dialup provider has an incorrect number for our SMTP mail server and as a result dialup customers can't contact our outbound mail server. They informed us that the problem should be fixed by tomorrow. (this statement did not make us happy) I will keep everyone apprised on the situation as it develops. |

| Well sure as all get out we were going to make a clean switch over and BOOM Qwest jumps the gun and kills the dialup lines. The company we are making the switch to is getting the dialups active on their system ASAP. Will keep you up on what's going on. |

Valley Software Co. is currently in the process of switching our major dialup connections from our other location to the retail store, and from Qwest to another provider at the same time. There may be disruptions in service during this transition time. We will try to keep you informed of any major outages beyond our control.
Please expect potential disruptions of service over the next few weeks. When the switchover is complete, we will notify you with the new dial-up number to use . We will prorate any downtime that may have occurred. This switch over will reduce our costs, which we will in turn pass on to you, our customers. AND we will be offering our own DSL service from Roseburg to Ashland. (no secondary DSL charges on your phone bill from qwest).
Our virtually hosted websites should not be affected by this switch, just the dialup connections. If you experience any problems with the Virtual Domains or email, please let us know.

the next month will be the &%$^*%$#&&4 (we are finding that getting Qwest to co-operate with the switch over is not a easy task)

| We had a spammer in the USwest DSL domain using our e-mail server as a remailer. The situation has been remedied. Some users who have been using our mail server but have connection via other means may experience difficulties. The situation was compounded by users leaving their e-mail on the mail server. The mail server is only a temporary holding place for your messages until you retrieve them for storage on your local machine or your own storage server. Storing large volumes of mail slows the server down. Please make sure your mail client destroys the e-mail after downloading it to your computer. Those individuals who had Grossly overstuffed e-mail accounts (greater than 1 Mb) will be contacted on an individual basis.
